IT'S PANTO TIME!

At Baron Hardup’s, the Ugly Sisters, Impetiga and Scrofulina, are getting ready for Prince Charming’s Ball.


Impetiga: That red top looks nice, goes with your eyes.
Scrofulina: The prince will go weak at the sight of my dainty knees.


Imp: It’s my blond curls that’ll turn his head.
Scrof: 365° in disbelief!


Imp: I can feel it in my bones. I’ll be a princess by morning.
Scrof: More like a right mess knowing how you hit the bottle!


It’s the morning after the ball and, at Baron Hardup’s, the Ugly Sisters are squabbling over Cinderella’s slipper.


Impetiga: I’ll go first – I have such pretty little feet!
Scrofulina: You’ll never get that on you big twit!


Imp: I’ll take me sock off!
Scrof: You’d need to chop your toes off more like!


Imp: Oh me bunion! I’ll try the other foot!
Scrof: But it’s a right shoe!

I've been up to the National Maritime Museum in Greenwich to see this summer's big Franklin Expedition exhibition, Death in the Ice .  They don't let you take photos in the exhibition, which gives me the excuse to illustrate th is review with scenes from a painting I made in 2013 , on a door in Bom – Bane's restaurant , Brighton. If you go, I recommend calling in first at the nearby chapel in the Old Royal Naval College , to see the Franklin Memorial . It's a powerful image of high hopes , on the left , crushed by the Arctic Ice, on the right. The memorial is also the t om b of one of the only tw o men of the expedition to brought back to Britain ( the other is in Edinburgh ). From 2011 is otope analysis of his teeth, he's thought to be Harry Goodsir, the brilliant young naturalist who served as Assistant Sur geon on HMS Erebus. The Sorrowful Tale of Sleeping Sidney

''The Sorrowful Tale of Sleeping Sidney'' is a puppet show, by Daisy Jordan , based on a notorious Victorian poisoning case, which took place in my home town, Brighton, in 1871. Christiana Edmunds ('The Chocolate Cream Poisoner'), romantically obsessed with Doctor Charles Izard Beard, made an unsuccessful attempt to murder his wife with poisoned sweets. When the doctor grew suspicious, she went on a chocolate poisoning spree to divert the blame onto a local confectioner, Mr Maynard. Although people all over town fell ill with strychnine poisoning there was only one fatality – four year old Sidney Albert Baker (Sleeping Sidney, above left). In Daisy's reshaping of the story, Christiana’s obsession with Dr Beard begins when he treats her for hysteria with 'a unique form of muscular massage suited exclusively to the fairer sex '.
